Welcome to Hillel Academy High School where we have approximately 300 students enrolled in Grade 7 through 13. Hillel boasts a multi-national and multi-cultural student population in an atmosphere where students feel safe and cared for. The School sits on approximately 12 ½ acres of land located in the lush, beautiful suburbs of Kingston.
Hillel offers a first class internationally accredited education. We have a well rounded curriculum that establishes high standards derived from the best local and international programs.
Hillel Academy is an I B World school, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the best pre-university programme available worldwide, opening doors to all the best universities throughout the United States of America, Europe and the Caribbean.
In preparation for the IB Diploma Programme students in Grades 10 and 11 prepare for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations from Cambridge.
Students learn within an environment based on a philosophy of developing the whole person. In partnership with all our stakeholders, parents, students and teachers, we seek to promote each student’s strengths and talents with the goal of fostering lifelong learning.
Hillel prides itself on its highly experienced and qualified teaching staff who are dedicated to promoting a stimulating, caring and productive learning environment, where students are encouraged to develop an inquiry based learning style.
Through our Art, Drama and P.E departments we engender an appreciation for the visual and performing arts, develop skills in physical activities and instil an appreciation of healthy forms of recreation and physical fitness. An appreciation of the importance of learning other languages is supported by the compulsory offer of Spanish and French in Grades 7, 8 and 9. The continuation of at least one language is required for both the IGCSE and IB programmes at Hillel.
Our Creativity, Action Service (CAS) Programme is an integral part of our High School curriculum. Our Community Service Programme fosters a climate of caring and contributing to the wider society, while our extensive After School Activities Programme promotes pride in our School through the participation in a wide variety of sports and clubs.
At Hillel Academy we have a vibrant and energetic Parent Teachers Association that works with the School in a variety of areas of school life. Class representatives ensure that home-school communication channels are maintained. Back to school evenings, grade meetings and Parent/Teacher Conferences provide a framework for reporting learning progress. Report Cards represent an ongoing evaluation of a student’s academic performance. There are five grading periods throughout the year at. In addition, after examinations in December and June, comprehensive reports are distributed.
The School promotes ethical values and engenders a strong sense of the importance of appreciating different cultures and peoples. We provide opportunities for students to learn respect for their own history and culture, while also appreciating others who have different backgrounds and customs.
