What is the I.G.C.S.E?
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (abbreivated IGCSE) is an internationally recognized qualification for High school students, typically in the 15-16 age group. The Cambridge IGCSE was developed by the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) in the 1988, as a replacement fot the 'O' Levels.
Cambridge IGCSE provides a broad study program and covers subjects from a variety of areas; Languages, Humanities, Social and Natural Sciences, Mathematics, Creative, Technical, and Vocational, with most IGCSE subjects offfering a choice of Core or Extended papers, and in some instances, the option of taking the subject with or without coursework, exists, making IGCSE suitable for students with varying levels of ability.
These related courses are renowned for developing vital educational skills, including recall of knowledge, oral skills, problem solving, initiative, team work and investigative skills. The resulting qualification provides the foundation for higher levels courses such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, and is recognized by universities and institutions of higher education around the world (including UWI and UTECH).
